Colettoville Cemetery
Located on church property of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church at intersection of Colettoville Road No. 1 and Colettoville Road No. 2 in the Jose Maria Hernandez Survey. North of Highway 59 at Raisin. Well fenced with a chain link fence on the south, east and north sides with a painted picket fence on the west end. Cemetery is one hundred ninety-six feet by one hundred thirty-five feet, has two ten foot double gates and two four foot gates. This is one of the best arranged and well cared for cemeteries in Victoria County. The plot has orderly rows and the grave spaces are spaced with proper measurements.

SINCE 1917 NO BURIAL SPACES HAVE BEEN SOLD UNTIL AFTER THE DEATH OF THE PERSON TO BE BURIED IN THIS CEMETERY. SINCE 1917, THERE HAVE BEEN NO VACANT SPACES IN THE ROWS. FOR THIS REASON IT IS UNUSUAL TO FIND HUSBAND AND WIFE BURIED SIDE BY SIDE. THE CEMETERY IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND HAS A NEAT APPEARANCE.
In this cemetery are buried many of the pioneer German settlers of the Colettoville area. The church at this place organized and two acres of land purchased from August and Thekla Spitzer for $2.00 per acre May 18, 1772. A cemetery plot was set aside on the two acre plot for a community cemetery without burial restrictions as to creed. First burials were Henry and Robert Spitzer, age 11 and 7 sons of August and Thekla Spitzer. Both died of diphtheria within a day or two of each other in 1873 and their father August Spitzer selected a spot for their graves and thus the cemetery was started [Row 5 spaces 6 and 7].
Starting with row 19 the use of curbs around graves will be discontinued due to the expense of mowing around curbs. 479 Burials as of Saturday, Aug. 2, 1969 (all names on this sheet on cemetery cards). There are 10 spaces vacant in Cemetery - May have had burial but show no evidence of a burial.
