Advocate Morgue Index

The Advocate Morgue Collection consists of the black and white 4" x 5" negatives from the Victoria Advocate files from 1949-1984. Only the negatives for photographs taken by Advocate staff photographers are included, there are no contributed photographs in the collection. While active, the morgue was in regular use by newspaper staff members who created yearly handwritten indexes for their own retrieval. These were arranged by subject, in alphabetical order, and by the date the photo appeared in the newspaper. Library staff transcribed these indexes and merged them into one database: the Advocate Morgue Index, that can be searched or browsed on the History Center website.
